Media Symposia draws on the expertise of a range of professionals working in academia, journalism, publishing, the arts, and technology


Johnny Cornwell - Director - is a publisher, conference producer and arts fundraiser with a background in academic, professional publishing, e-learning, and arts development. He is Executive Director of the Science & Human Dimension Project SHDP, a public understanding of science programme based at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, where is a Senior Research Associate.

As a publisher he worked for Routledge, Chapman & Hall, O'Reilly Media, and the Thomson Corporation in Paris, Madrid and London. He headed the strategic business unit of e-publisher ThirdForce plc, working with UNESCO and governments in the Middle East, Africa, China, and the Americas. He was Chief Operating Officer of YUDU Media, pioneer in digital magazines and ebooks.

Until 2017 Jonathan Cornwell was director of the Rustat Conferences, summits for leaders from business, government and academia, based at Jesus College in the University of Cambridge; and is director of a cyber security conference series, holding events for government, industry and academia. In 2012-13, he was a member of the organising committee of Houghton Revisited (Apollo Magazine Exhibition of the Year), and director of fundraising, securing support of the main sponsors BP, Christie's and Oracle Capital Group. In 2014-15 he was a member of the organising committee of a Lightscape - Jamess Turrell at Houghton, a major UK exhibition of the US light artist. With Wide Eyed Vision Ltd he works to produce high quality apps for art exhibitions and public and private collections. In 2018-19 he worked on new projects for the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Johnny Cornwell is a graduate of University College London, Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London.

Dr Tudor Jenkins is an AI researcher, digital media expert, photographer, and programmer. Through his consultancy Wide Eyed Vision he has experience developing digital media projects including multimedia applications and websites for a range of organisations in the public and private sectors including The National Trust, Historic Royal Palaces, the Rustat Conferences, and the Rolling Stones touring show Exhibitionism in 2016. In 2013 he produced the Houghton Revisited exhibition App available on iTunes.

Tudor has a Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex and did research at the Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris. He is a senior adviser to the Science & Human Dimension Project's AI and the Future of Humanity programme.

John Cornwell is an author, journalist and Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge, where he directs the Science & Human Dimension Project, a public understanding of science programme, and was founder of the Rustat Conferences. He writes for many publications including The Sunday Times, Financial Times, New York Times, Vanity Fair, Nature, The Observer, Prospect, New Statesman, Spectator, TLS and The Tablet. He is author of many books including Hitler's Pope, A Thief in the Night, A Power to Harm, Earth to Earth, and Darwin's Angel. He is also editor of Nature's Imagination, Consciousness and Human Identity, and Explanations: Styles of Explanation in Science - all published by OUP. He studied at Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
